Geoff Ralph  - Queensbury Golf Club

HHDUGC President 2010

Dear Member,

I would like to first of all say how surprised and delighted I was to be asked to fill the position of Union President for 2010. The last Queensbury member to hold the office of President was WK (Pat) Patterson in 1980. As a relatively new member at that time, I did not, perhaps, fully appreciate the significance of this honour, but the years have increased my understanding of the Union and its work, and I am looking forward with eager anticipation to my year as President.

I would like to thank my predecessor, Phil Walton, and the Union Secretary, John Lawrence, for their support and encouragement throughout 2009. They have been a great help in my preparations for office, and I am happy to say that they will both be available for assistance and guidance in 2010. The Executive members have also been very obliging, and their knowledge and understanding of Union matters has been a great source of assistance and encouragement.

This year’s Senior and Junior Inter Union teams will again be captained by Chris Mear and Frank Greaves respectively. I am sure I speak for all Union members when I wish them and their players all the best for a successful 2010 season. As a Union we showed plenty of potential at all levels in 2009, and with many of last year’s senior players available for this year’s competition there will be a welcome element of continuity. We also have plenty of talented juniors who, I am sure, will be pressing their claims for inclusion in both Teams.

My congratulations go out to all 2009 trophy winners, together with my thanks to all competitors and their Clubs. It is both pleasing and encouraging to see the support from the member Clubs for Union Events. Particular credit must go to the Individual Champions Aaron Schnacke and Adam Cryer, winners of the Scratch and Junior Championships respectively. A mention also is well deserved by Jamie Bower, who has been selected for England coaching in 2010.

Sincere thanks must go to all our Sponsors for their continued support, without which it would be extremely difficult to continue the development of the Union. Their valued contribution cannot be overstated.

I am delighted to congratulate Richard Kaye of Bradley Park Golf Club on his nomination as President Elect for 2010, and I look forward with great anticipation to a successful and productive year.

And finally, my best wishes to you, the Members, and good golfing to you all in 2010.

Geoff Ralph
